Should you choose Level 1 or Level 2?

The songs taught in Level 1 are more simple both in melody and words, whereas the songs taught in Level 2 are melodically more complex and have more Bengali words.

However, the deep spiritual teachings that come through all the songs and Parvathy’s explanations are relevant to anyone.

  • If you are a beginner in music, we recommend you to start with level 1.
  • If you are at a more advanced music level, you could choose either Level 1 or Level 2.

Learning Baul wisdom through songs

“In the Baul songs, the main thing is that you have different aspects (tattvas) which will give you some insight and also an element to meditate on.

So as a music it is very complete, but it has another extra quality which crosses all the other aspects of music… Music is also scholarship. So it crosses the scholarship and it merges into your spiritual practice.

By repeating the songs - you have to repeat many, many times - then what will happen: you will start realizing the sound that is hidden in the song. And that sound will resonate inside you.

So the first thing that should happen to us is a healing process in us.
The sound is a great healing.
You must have heard all this healing with sound. But your own sound is the medicine. The medicine is right here, you don’t have to go anywhere. It is in your body.
It is right there in you. You just have to wake it up.

So sing and sing and sing and sing…
Only by singing you will really realize this sound inside you.
It will come, the naad, true naad.”

(Parvathy Baul, Excerpt taken from a teaching in Baul Sangha Online - Level 1 Module 2)
